TV I Have Been Obsessing Over for April 2020

Updated: Apr 17, 2020

Hey guys! Me again. I wanted to share some really cool TV show recommendations I have been watching this past month. I have been mainly streaming through Hulu and Netflix, so you can find these shows on either/or. Warning: Half of these are reality shows.

...What? We've gotten some awesome Reality TV lately!

1. Awkward

Genre: Comedy/Drama

Rating: TV-14

Where to Stream: Hulu/Amazon Prime

Trailer

How am I just now getting into this? I remember when this series was on MTV years back. I never watched it back then, but I have been absolutely obsessed with it now. It's about an average teenage girl who is not popular, not unpopular, and she navigates her way through high school. The series teaches about friendship, dating, new experiences, and family troubles. It's a show about growing up in your teenage years. I'm also so invested in these characters right now. Who's sleeping with who? What are her friends up to? Who is that "skink" with now? You're welcome.

2. Dave

Genre: Comedy

Rating: TV-MA

Where to Stream: FX/Hulu/Youtube TV

Trailer

I never paid much attention to Lil Dicky. I thought he was cool and Freaky Friday is a bop, but I never took the time to listen to his music. Then I'm on Hulu and I'm thinking "Who?? Is that Lil Dicky?" and clicked on it. Honestly, I'm impressed. The show is hilarious! I never thought of him to be such a funny guy with a great story to tell. The series is all about his journey as a rapper, and you learn so much about his comedic, wholesome, completely unique way of going about his music. It's definitely not reality, as details are fictionalized to add entertainment value, but it just makes it that more interesting. Very much recommend this, even if you're not a fan of his music.

3. Love Is Blind

Genre: Reality

Rating: TV-MA

Where to Stream: Netflix

Trailer

Hi this show is so weird - in the best way. The premise: a bunch of guys, a bunch of girls, separated from the opposite sex, go on dates. Cute! They never see each other. Then they take it up a notch: Proposals. For some, marriage will follow. The experiment follows those who have proposed without ever seeing their fiance beforehand in an effort to find out: is love truly blind? I don't know about you, but I could never. It's a fascinating watch, though!

4. Love Island UK

Genre: Reality

Rating: TV-14

Where to Stream: Hulu, CBS

Trailer

Been really into this one the last few months. I haven't seen the US or Austrailia versions, but at this point, I am uber okay with my UK fix. The show follows guys and gals who couple up, and consists of playing games, going on dates, and fighting the new girl that's all over your crush. Get her, girl! In the end, the winning couple receives a whopping 50,000 euros. What's that in dollars? Not sure, but money and a new man can't not be a win. The best part? The narrator! He makes the funniest jokes and comments about the cast. I'd quote one but can't spoil anything.

5. Shrill

Genre: Comedy

Rating: TV-MA

Where to Stream: Hulu

Trailer

SNL star Aidy Bryant stars in this humorous series. Although I have not watched too many episodes, and admittingly, it is not my favorite out of the list, it still charms you with the love you have for the character. The show features a journalist who feels under-appreciated by just about everyone and everything in her life - from boys to her boss, no one values her for who she is. It is a journey about self-love and discovery, being a woman in a man's world. I'm biased though, Saturday Night Live is one of my favorite things in this world, so I am willing to support her in this. The show is keeping me so far, and I have hopes that it will become even better.

6. The Circle

Genre: Reality

Rating: TV-14

Where to Stream: Netflix

Trailer

Aaaaaaaand.... yes, another reality show. I'm so into it! This one is new also, just like Love is Blind. The show again isolates its contestants, but this time they compete to be the greatest social media star. "The Circle" is their only way of communication. Without seeing each other, they can be whoever they want to be. Hint hint. It's dramatic, it's fun, it's competitive. This is certainly an exciting watch.

7. Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness

Genre: Docu-series

Rating: TV-14

Where to Stream: Netflix

Trailer

Wild. Absolutely wild. There's murder, polygamy, illegal animal treatment, crazy lunatics. This show has been in the works for six years and started off as a documentary that would be similar to "Blackfish". But, the producers had no idea what they were getting themselves into. Joe Exotic has been convicted in prison for a murder-for-hire against enemy, Carole Baskin. But, I don't think he is the only one that should be in prison. Watch this to see the craziest docu-series ever.

Let me know your favorites, and drop some suggestions on what you think I should watch this month!

All the love,

Hannah
