Feel-Good Comedies to Lift Your Spirits (Even in the Lowest of Times)

Updated: Apr 17, 2020

Hello everyone!

First blog post... Man, this feels weird. It's really cool to be writing to everyone. I wanted to create a platform where I can share my thoughts about things I love, separate from Instagram and YouTube (But you can still follow on both (; ). I am navigating my way through all of this, as it is fairly new to me. So bear with me for a little while! I hope you like it.

Alright, while we wait for the excited/happy tears to dry, here's some funny film recommendations.

1. Big Time Adolescence

Genre: Comedy

Rating: R

Where to Stream: Hulu

Trailer

Being the newest on the list, Big Time Adolescence is a coming-of-age film about the bond between a teenage boy (Mo) and his best friend (Zeke): a drug dealer who is a few years older. Mo has always thought that Zeke is the coolest guy around, so he follows in many of Zeke's footsteps. The movie teaches about friendship, finding self-worth, and navigating high school. Perfect for someone who just wants to see a couple of guys being dudes. Also, Pete Davidson and Colson Baker (Machine Gun Kelly) star in this, it’s pretty awesome.

2. Freaky Friday

Genre: Comedy

Rating: PG

Where to Stream: Disney+

Trailer

OMG, who didn’t love this movie as a kid? I was scrolling through Disney+ the other day and found this. What a gem. For those of you who haven’t, this movie stars Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis (Off to a great start). The mother-daughter switch bodies accidentally, and it leads to a comedic adventure to reverse it. I definitely recommend this for a light watch!

3. The Game Plan

Genre: Comedy

Rating: PG

Where to Stream: Disney+

Trailer

This was my favorite movie as a kid! I was looking through my DVD collection and I completely forgot about this masterpiece with Madison Pettis and The Rock. It’s… awesome. It’s about a football player who finds out he has a child, and learns to balance the life between. He’s also single in this. Bachelor Football star? Who is also an exceptional father? And Young Madison Pettis is the cutest thing. Watch this if you’re ready to swoon and have a few laughs.

4. Good Burger

Genre: Comedy

Rating: PG

Where to Stream: Netflix

Trailer

Yo. Yo. Yo… this movie is dope. My father and I watched it last week and two minutes in we started cracking up laughing: “This would be so good if I was stoned”. Well, I said that. Home of the Good Burger, this movie is pure fun. Workers at a fast food restaurant have a new rival across the street, and the not-so-bright protagonist works hard to keep his favorite place in business. Sit back, relax, and enjoy.

5. Hot Rod

Genre: Comedy

Rating: PG-13

Where to Stream: Netflix

Trailer

This is in my top three of all time! This movie is more quotable than Mean Girls. Every line is hilariously structured and hits every time you watch. With an all-star cast consisting of Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, Bill Hader, Danny McBride, Isla Fisher, and Will Arnett, this movie is fucking funny. Rod Kimble, stuntman, raises money to give his stepfather a heart transplant. Cute, right? Watch the movie.

6. Love Actually

Genre: Rom-Com

Rating: R

Where to Stream: HBO, Hulu

Trailer

I know this can totally be a Christmas movie, and It’s march, but this is such a feel good movie. Plus, it doesn’t hurt to have a Rom-Com in the list. Swooning over Dwayne Johnson in The Game Plan is great, but why not swoon over Hugh Grant also? He used to be so cute. This movie follows major heartthrobs and their journey following their heart, leading to epic romance or epic heartbreak. If you wanna laugh, swoon, and cry, this is for you.

7. Nacho Libre

Genre: Comedy

Rating: PG

Where to Stream: Netflix

Trailer

LMAO remember this movie? Jack Black was in his prime. Also School of Rock (Recommend that too) but this movie hit differently. He’s a wrestler who has to hide his true identity from the monastery he’s a part of. And this suit. Watch this for a good time.

8. Napoleon Dynamite

Genre: Comedy

Rating: PG

Where to Stream: Cinemax

Trailer

There’s nothing like it. I’m having trouble describing ND, as it’s one of those “You gotta see it” films. Napoleon Dynamite is a massive dork who befriends the new guy at school, Pedro, who speaks very minimal english. Together, Napoleon helps Pedro run for class president. This goofy must-see has become a classic, and will leave you laughing for weeks.

9. Step Brothers

Genre: Comedy

Rating: R

Where to Stream: Netflix

Trailer

What a great film! Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly star as step brothers in this hilariously quotable movie. They go from hating each others to becoming the best of friends, and learn to navigate life as new family members. It's a great time just for some classic, stupid humor.

10. Superbad

Genre: Comedy

Rating: R

Where to Stream: Hulu, Vudu

Trailer

This movie and Monsters Inc. are tied #1 for me. It's comedy gold. Just like Hot Rod, there is a massive all-star cast: Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Emma Stone (My GIRL), Bill Hader, Seth Rogan, Dave Franco. Two high school virgins make a plan to go to a party before school ends. Their friend drags along to help with getting alcohol, and gets busted by two cops. The raunchy humor will have you laughing all night long.

Pop ya popcorn, drink some Corona (Too soon?), snuggle up with some fleece blankets, and enjoy the films. Let me know how you like 'em, and stay safe.

All the love,

Hannah
